Phyllis Freeman
Phyllis
Freeman is a Professor Emerita in the College of Public and Community
Service, Senior Fellow in the Center for Social Policy of the John
Jay McCormack Graduate School of Policy Studies, and on the faculty
of the Public Policy Ph.D. program, University of Massachusetts
Boston. She specializes in law, public policy, and public health.
She served as Counsel to the Committee on Energy and Commerce of
the US House of Representatives (1982-86), was a Scholar-in-Residence
at the US Institute of Medicine/National Academy of Sciences (1986-87),
and has worked with the Pan American Health Organization, the UN
Task Force for Child Survival, and the Fogarty International Center
at the US National Institutes of Health. She served on the Board
of Scientific Counselors for the National Center for Infectious
Diseases of CDC and serves now on the Board of Advisors for the
Massachusetts Biological Laboratories and on the Editorial Board
of Salud Publica (national public health journal of Mexico).
During the 1992-93 academic year, she was a Fulbright Scholar at
Mexico’s Academy of Medicine and National Institute of Public
Health. She has written extensively about public health policy domestically
and internationally.
